What is the invisible sculpture?
Students should discuss Salvatore Garau's invisible sculpture "Buddha in Contemplation". Why is an invisible sculpture still considered art. Is it really here? Can something completely imaginary be art?
After the discussion, each student should express either with their bodies, or through drawings, what the invisible sculpture looks like.
What is the sound of the silent song?
One of John Cage's most provocative works was his piece titled '4:33', in which the pianist would remain silent during those four and a half minutes, and not play a note. Discuss with the students why they think this composition is, or isn't music? Would it be music? What is the importance of silence in this piece? Can a silence be loud?
Afterwards, have the students, in groups try to express what the silent song would actually be. They can invent a new tune, or use something they have listened to (It could even be silent!).
Make a virtual class
We've all experienced distance learning because of the pandemic. But what would an entirely virtual class be like? How would it work? What would some of the challenges be like?
After a group discussion, have the students design what they think a fully immersive, and virtual class would look like.
Avatar design
What would you be online, if you could transform into anything you think of? This is the initial question posed to the students in this activity. They are to create an avatar that they would use in the metaverse. They can also think of accessories that they would like to use.
