LION KING PERFORMANCE

It was the proud moment we have all been patiently waiting for…Year 5 were FANTASTIC in their Disney Musicals in Schools performance of the Lion King.
The Head of Haringey Music, who  joined us for this special occasion, congratulated everyone involved:
‘I was captivated by the energy, coordination and dedication displayed by the children and staff. From the moment I entered, I could feel the buzz of excitement in the air. The ambiance was alive with anticipation, and as the performance began, it quickly became evident that this was going to be unforgettable! Your teamwork permeated throughout the show. It was heartwarming to see the children supporting one another, both on and off the stage, fostering a sense of unity and belonging, all key parts of the Lion King story.”

Year 5 has some incredibly talented young performers, we know your creativity will continue to shine, keep up the hard work children.

SPURS SHORT STORIES

Three Haringey schools from the Learning in Tottenham education network were brought together for the very exciting Spurs Short Story competition. There were many fantastic entries from our young writers but there could only be one winner, chosen and announced by children's author Dan Freedman himself. After an exciting day touring the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and meeting player Dane Scarlett the children waited patiently for the winner to be announced… Congratulations to Skylar (Year 5 Quartz) for her winning entry 'An Unexpected Day at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium'. The mysterious twist in her story captured the attention of Dan Freedman, 'I read this and I thought WOW! The combination...of action, humour, description, imagination. I thought it was the most magnificent story and it deserved to win'. Everyone had an incredible day and the children are very pleased with their goody bags from the event which included a copy of Dan Freedman's book and THFC merchandise.

PENDARREN ADVENTURE

Our Year 5 and 6 children recently embarked on another memorable five-day trip to Pendarren House in Wales, continuing a cherished school tradition. This was an adventure for all who attended and no two days were the same. Exhilarating activities such as zip lining, caving, and canoeing, offered an opportunity for the children to demonstrate their independence, confidence and resilience. Together the children crawled through caves, marvelled at rivers and waterfalls, climbed mountains, and explored a mineshaft at the Big Pit Mining Museum. With big smiles and lots of teamwork, the children bravely embraced each challenge that came their way. This fantastic experience not only pushed their limits but also provided lifelong memories against the beautiful backdrop of the Welsh countryside.

MINI GREEN MARATHON

Did you know that children are encouraged to take part in the daily mile during playtimes? You can often see children in Year 1 to Year 6 energetically running the playground border to see if they can squeeze in just one lap before they go back to class. As part of this healthy school initiative we recently took part in the TCS Mini Marathon event with our Mini Green Marathon. There were some fantastic banners and posters to promote a healthy lifestyle and planet. Our school has received multiple awards in relation to our participation which include The Daily Mile Fit For Life Award and a TCS Mini London Marathon trophy which we can’t wait to receive. If you have a passion for running or fitness and would like to get involved in our daily mile activities please get in touch.

INTERNATIONAL DAY

A group of our talented Year 5 children were invited to perform at a special International Day celebration held by Rowland Hill Nursery & Children’s Centre.
The event is an annual occurrence at the local nursery and this year’s celebrations were fantastic. Congratulations to everyone who took part and of course a special mention to our young performers. After showcasing a selection of songs from their recent (Disney Musicals in Schools) performance ‘The Lion King’, children were able to enjoy delicious food from all around the world with their family and friends. We would like to say a huge thank you for inviting us and very much look forward to attending next year.

TINY FOREST

We are so excited to have taken part in the Earthwatch initiative which has enabled our local community to plant a total of 1800 trees within Haringey. Families at Devonshire Hill were able to plant a selection of native saplings which make up our very own ‘Tiny Forest’.

Our new Tiny Forest offers the perfect opportunity to open conversation and educate our community about the importance of trees for improved air quality, reduction of flooding, support to wildlife and for our own connection with nature.

Thankyou to everyone who came along to support at the planting sessions it was great to see so many ‘green fingered’ helpers.

HAPPY SCHOOL BAG

Once again we would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone who donated good quality clothing for our most recent Happy School Bag collection. Your efforts helped our school to raise a total of £147 which will go towards our next exciting project to support children’s learning experiences. Additionally your donations will make a difference to someone who really needs these items of clothing while also protecting our planet by not sending good quality items into landfill, what a brilliant cause. If you missed out on taking part this time we will be looking to organise one more collection towards the end of the academic year. More details will follow nearer the time, please keep your  Happy School Bag donations at home until then.

WORLD BOOK DAY

As always our children and staff looked fantastic for our World Book Day celebrations! This special day was filled with lots of our favourite authors, illustrators and book characters. Ms Bates held an exciting assembly and children had great fun trying to identify each staff member hiding behind their favourite book!

Your generous donations raised a total of £143 and we are very much looking forward to putting these donations towards our recently launched Library. If you have any suggestions for books or other accessories that you would like to see in our library please get in touch, we would love to hear your ideas.

TIME TRAVELLERS

As part of the History curriculum, children in Year 1 visited Bruce Castle museum to take part in an exciting ‘School Days’ workshop. During their visit we learned all about how school would have been for a Victorian child. The children quickly got into character in the very serious Victorian classroom, while wearing their Victorian costumes complete with flat cap and slate board. We even had a mini Headmistress!
It was very interesting to compare this historical learning environment to their own modern classroom at Devonshire Hill.

OLYMPIC SPORTS DAYS

We are looking forward to welcoming our families to celebrate all things sport during our upcoming Olympic Sports Days in June. We encourage all visitors to come dressed suitably for the weather and to bring along something to sit on. This can be in the form of a blanket, a deckchair or similar.

LIVE SCIENCE

In celebration of science week The Royal Institute of Science held a very exciting live science show for the whole school to enjoy, including our parents and carers. The show was filled with exciting interactive experiments which captured the curiosity of every person in the audience. The children were keen to volunteer with a number of activities from popping rockets, making fiery bubbles and testing forces with tug of war. There was definitely something to inspire each of our young scientists on this very special day which was also Albert Einstein's birthday!

TOTTENHAM UNIVERSITY

The most recent Tottenham University event welcomed special guest, Ken Wharfe. During the interactive workshop Ken told many interesting stories about his experience of working for the Royal Family as the personal protection officer for the late Princess Diana. Children and staff had a fantastic day and were even given an opportunity to ask some very thoughtful questions to close the event.

EASTER RAFFLE

We would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone who contributed to The Big Easter Raffle. There were lots of delicious easter treats available for our lucky winners to take home and enjoy with their family and friends. Whether you donated an easter egg, purchased raffle tickets or both, your generosity has helped the school to raise a total of £260 during this event. We thank you for your continued support and we can’t wait to see our families involved in the upcoming events of Summer Term.
