GREAT MENTAL HEALTH DAY

Great Mental Health Day 2024 explores the importance of meaningful connections while highlighting the power of relationships. The Devonshire Hill Nursery & Primary School marked this very special occasion at the very first Learning in Tottenham (LIT) event. A total of seven educational settings came together with their families to experience a series of short bust performances by children aged 2 - 11 years. Acts demonstrated a variety of talents including, singing, dancing, poetry, acting and of course The Devonshire Hill Band while wearing unique ‘wellbeing hats’. Congratulations to The Devonshire Hill Band who won as the ‘best act’ for their fantastic performance. The experience was inspiring and uplifting with a very powerful message, ‘individually we are unique…together we are complete’.

WELLBEING HATS

This year marks the second year of celebrating Great Mental Health Day through the creation of ‘wellbeing hats’. Children and their families made a fantastic effort this year in a bid to produce a beautiful hat with a powerful message. Each hat is different in shape, size, and colour, they are as unique as their creators, each with a different story. The top ten hats from across the school were carefully selected to represent our school at the LIT event alongside sixty additional children from other local educational settings. The members of Devonshire Hill School Band will each wear one of the winning hats while performing for six other local schools. Congratulations to the winning hat designers who have been presented with a special award for their achievement. We are looking forward to seeing even more hats added to our display.

DOUBLE CELEBRATION

Congratulations to the 52 families who were awarded for attending school every day in Autumn term 2023. This fantastic achievement was acknowledged with a special certificate, badge and a session on the inflatable obstacle course. They were joined in a double celebration alongside Lynch House children who were announced as the winning house for Autumn Term 2023.

House points have now been reset and we are looking forward to even more positivity and friendly competition. The attendance count for Spring term, let’s see how many children can reach 100%. Remember punctuality counts also, being late to school will lower your attendance score.

THE BIG PLASTIC COUNT

Children on the school council have made a pledge to support ‘The Big Plastic Count’. This campaign is aimed at highlighting the volume of single use plastic finding its way into our bins. Our eco friendly role models will each record the amount of plastic which they throw away both at home and with their peers in the classroom. Our results will be submitted alongside the results of others in order to raise awareness of the amount of plastic heading to landfill. If you would like to join in you can find out more at  https://thebigplasticcount.com/how-it-works

FREE PIANO BOOKINGS

Did you know that Haringey Libraries now offer FREE piano bookings? This is a brilliant opportunity for children who are currently having lessons to get the little bit of extra

practise and to share their skills with their family and friends. Full details of how to book a Piano session can be seen on the Haringey website: https://www.haringey.gov.uk/libraries-sport-and-leisure/libraries/library-pianos

Remember to share your most recent library visit with us, send in a photo for our next newsletter or tag us in your social media posts.

OPEN AFTERNOON

We are looking forward to welcoming parents/carers with children in Reception to Year 6 for our annual Open Afternoon on Thursday 8th February. This fantastic opportunity enables current families to visit the school with their child for an informal visit to the classroom to see their work. In addition your child can show you around our school. School will close at 1.15pm for Reception to Year 6, this will enable us to accommodate two sessions: 1:30pm - 3pm and 3pm - 4.30pm. A message will be sent to inform you once bookings are open. Please note that Nursery will remain open as usual.

YEAR OF THE DRAGON

What better way to celebrate Chinese New Year 2024 than with a competition? The new year is the year of the dragon and we are inviting children, families and staff to design their very own beautiful and vibrant dragon. Create your dragon on A4 sized paper using any materials that you choose. Your dragon should follow the theme of celebrating Chinese New Year which can be represented through illustrations of performance (anything from dancing to juggling or singing), red envelopes, lanterns, positive and happy vibes. See Full details of the competition and upcoming event at: www.devonshirehill.com/letter/chinese-new-year-of-the-dragon-2024/

WORLD BOOK DAY

It’s almost that time of year when children across the country come to school dressed as their favourite book characters. Who will you dress as on Thursday 7th March? There’s plenty of time to decide who you will dress as, remember the most impressive homemade (not shop bought) outfits will win a special award! Why not head over to the World Book Day website for some inspiration and to enter book themed competitions for a chance to win signed copies, book bundles, and more! www.worldbookday.com/competitions/
