Students will be working on surface measurement (2d) as well as volume and capacity measurement (3d).
Success Criteria
correctly select and apply the proper formula for the required measurement
understand and demonstrate the difference between 1 dimensional measurement (example - distance from home to school; always in units - cm, m etc.), 2 dimensional measurement (example - the size of a piece of paper, the dimensions of a rectangle - always in units squared - cm squared, m squared (I can't do the little 2 in the upper corner like I wish to!), 3 dimensional measurement (how much can fit in the box; always in units cubed, cm to the power of 3, m to the power of 3)
not confuse perimeter and area. This is an ongoing misconception. Perimeter - is always walking around the outside of a shape, such as around the outside fence of a park. Area, is the space inside the park. For those into video games - defend the perimeter against attack. Perimeter is always related to distance and units, area is always units squared.
don't confuse area and volume. Remember, building a box, can or whatever is surface area. So is decorating it with wrapping paper. That is always surface area and 2d measurement. Volume, capacity, is how much stuff can you carry with it or fit inside. Always 3d.
Please Note: The computer browser must be Google Chrome to begin. If you do not yet have Google Chrome as a browser, please download the free program first.
Please have your WIFI and student's DDSB login information ready before you begin.
A quick walk through showing how to add 4 important bookmarks every Lester B. Pearson student should have.
Ensure you are signed into Chrome with DDSB login, not just signed into Google. See How to Google Meet video below for clarification.

If you are invited to a Google Meet Conference by your teacher here are some things to ready and consider before the meeting begins.
Find a quiet private location to take part in your home, away from family members and other background distractions as much as possible.
Be conscious of what will display in your background.
If possible use headphones or ear buds during the meeting.
Just like a classroom, be respectful to one another, we will attempt to speak one at a time. This means, be prepared to raise a hand to ask a question or make a comment.
Keep you mic muted unless you're called on by the teacher to ask your question or comment or if you have something to say.
Teachers can only host a meeting with more than one student. To ensure this happens, the teacher may need to end the meeting before it's schedule end time or delay the start time until more than one student is waiting to begin.
Taking screen shots or recording the meeting is strictly prohibited.
