Background Web Scavenger Hunt

Give students the opportunity to learn all the background information they need before starting Night with a web scavenger hunt that includes an easy-read website with digestible bits of info and a quick quiz to confirm their learning.

Background Jigsaw Presentations

Put your students in charge of teaching by splitting them into up to 8 groups and letting each group research and present a background topic using the provided research questions. Students can present their lessons live or post and share.

Personal History of Persecution

After discussing the persecution of the Jews, ask students to research their own history by filling out this form, which will guide them through researching persecution in their life or the lives of their ancestors. Urge them to only answer the questions they choose.

Use the Premium version of the Google Slides Pear Deck Add-On to allow your students to answer multiple choice questions about the chapters live in class after each reading or homework session.

To make in-class reading more fun, try playing Thematic Chairs with the Pear Deck Add-On. When the reading stops, students stop on a theme or get locked. It's a great way to start a class discussion.

Night Theme Analytical Essay

After their guided essay, it's time to give students a little more free reign and a lot more feedback when writing. Give students these helpful sentence frames to help them write an analytical essay on a theme in Night, and then let the entire class help you give them feedback as they finish each paragraph with the interactive PD paragraph rubrics.

Personal History of Persecution Project

After researching their ancestors' persecution with the survey (see starters), let your students speak out about their history by presenting a slideshow and posting it on their class' own custom Google Map. They'll be able to explore all the places in the world where they and their classmates researched persecution.
