Applicable Common Core College and Career Readiness Standards

 Text Types and Purposes:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.1

Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.1.A

Introduce precise claim(s), distinguish the claim(s) from alternate or opposing claims, and create an organization that establishes clear relationships among claim(s), counterclaims, reasons, and evidence.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.1.B

Develop claim(s) and counterclaims fairly, supplying evidence for each while pointing out the strengths and limitations of both in a manner that anticipates the audience's knowledge level and concerns.

Use words, phrases, and clauses to link the major sections of the text, create cohesion, and clarify the relationships between claim(s) and reasons, between reasons and evidence, and between claim(s) and counterclaims.

Establish and maintain a formal style and objective tone while attending to the norms and conventions of the discipline in which they are writing.

Monday 

Start Entry Task


Review the proper use of commas and sentence types; see Comma Rules and the various simple, compound, and complex review material in Google Classroom - you will be quizzed and tested regularly.


Review last week's test.


Review the parts of an essay and thesis statement. See the thesis statement slide in Google Classroom. 

 

Create your (appropriate) thesis statement based on the criteria detailed in the Google Slide, by the start of class tomorrow or one of the 25 in G.C. will be assigned to you.  


Reminder: Note: For those students who did not complete the Independent Reading Project Numbered or Lettered Final Projects last quarter, they are assigned #2 (write a resume...) for the numbered final project and the letter "B" ( construct a Google Slide...) for the lettered final project. Both will be done by this Friday- along with the 1-2 minute SYB presentation. Recall  that the late work rule of 50% off.

Start Entry Task

Have your research paper thesis statement ready at the start of class.  

Introduce source cards and research (note) cards.

No classes - Conferences 



Thursday:

Start Entry Task

To HS Library to get at least one book for their research paper and a 4th quarter reading book. 


Friday:

Start Part 1 Entry Task

Idioms/ Academic noun and verbs/Sentence type and Comma test

SSR-3rd Quarter Independent Reading Project (due date is today)
