My name is Reilly Rich and I was a 2020 CVA graduate. I just finished my sophomore year of college at Stony Brook University on Long Island, where I am a health science major with a minor in health, medicine, and society. I also am on the women’s soccer team at the school. Balancing my major with soccer is definitely challenging at times, but having teammates and coaches who hold each of us accountable and expect a lot from us is what keeps me focused and able to balance both.
If I could use one word to describe being a student-athlete, it would be discipline. It is my responsibility to make sure I prepare myself for the upcoming season/semester both athletically and academically. There are times when I am not motivated to go to a training session or study for an exam, but I have to be disciplined enough to follow through with my commitment to my coaches and my teammates. I know that I will never become as successful as I want to be if I don’t stay disciplined and hold myself to a high standard. With that being said, I am extremely excited for this upcoming fall season and semester. Playing in a competitive conference and surrounding myself with extremely talented players is going to be a challenge, but I am excited for the challenge and excited to see how I grow as a player.
A piece of advice I would give to students at CVA would be to remember that great things will come to you if you work hard for them. Learn to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations; it’s how you grow as a person. Sometimes taking the risk will benefit you more than you could have imagined, for the “easy route” will always be there.
