Showcasing CVA’s Stars
by Annamarie Lyman
Every year, the Central Valley Academy Chamber Choir and Singers perform for the general public in a musical theater showcase, also known as the Cabaret. For nearly two hours, audience members listened to songs such as “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid, “All I Need is an Angel” from Grease, “Alone in the Universe” from Seussical, and “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Mis.
Rehearsals for the “Musical Theater Cabaret Showcase,” which would usually last about an hour and a half, started in the middle of August. These rehearsals consisted of learning and reviewing sheet music, and each person would learn at least four pieces. A “Jersey Boys (Medley),” which was performed by the Chamber Choir, was eight minutes long and combined a total of six songs. When these pieces were completely memorized, the ensemble moved to the auditorium to learn choreography. Eventually, costumes, colorful lights, and body microphones were added to the performance.
Mrs. Kelly, a long-time supporter of Central Valley’s music department, often posts reviews for musical-related events in the library. The most recent comment she made about the winter concert said that it was “A wonderful evening of music that put me right in the holiday spirit! Kudos for all of your hard work.”
There is plenty of anticipation for the coming months, as many singers prepare for the spring musical “Sister Act,” which will be performed February 29th to March 2nd. You won’t want to miss it!
