For each edition, Thor will present some real world examples of social and emotional struggles we might go through in our lives. Thor will follow up with advice on how to deal with the situation by resolving the issue at hand. These stories might help you!
Chad Terbox: Thor! Moving into my senior year, I have lots of things coming up like college visits and interviews for college, work, and scholarships. But as my friends would be able to tell you, I have a problem with going on rants and talking a little too much. How much of a problem do you think this will be for these events and if it’s a major issue, how can I go about fixing it?
Thor: Thanks for this question, Chad. I think a lot of people are apprehensive about their upcoming exposures because they’ll be bringing on big changes to their lives. Something that scholarship committees and colleges tend to look for is uniqueness. If you are a talker, you will likely thrive being yourself in interviews. They want to hear about you! Keep going on your path, and keep being Chad.
Freda Innocent: Hey Thor, I’ve got a little issue. I’m a very studious person, but recently I have been accused of spreading work and cheating in my English class. I do not want my grade to suffer, nor do I want people in my class getting in trouble. Please help me out!
Thor: Hey Freda, thanks for reaching out. This is certainly a tough situation, but I think something that might help you is talking to the teacher about your record in their class. Think about how to articulate your case to them, as they might even be impressed by your defense. Please don’t let this discourage you.
Summer Jobs: My man Thor! I’m sure you’ve worked a part-time gig or two. My parents really want me to get a summer job, but it’s my last summer as a high schooler. I’m not sure I want to invest much time into work on my vacation. Is it worth doing?
Thor: I totally get where you’re coming from, Summer. When you make your decision, I want you to think about a few things. What could you do with the money you’d make? Are you able to find a relatively close job? Will you be able to make time for yourself? If you can see the benefits and flexibility in a particular summer job, it might just be worth it.
Hai Gene: Why shouldn’t you brush your teeth with your left hand?
Thor: Probably because it’s far more effective to brush your teeth with a toothbrush.
