CVA GIRLS' FIELD HOCKEY
by Amber Newtown
My name is Amber Newtown and I was one of the captains for Central Valley's Varsity Field Hockey team for the 2022 season. Although we did not have a winning record, the love I have for our team is indescribable. On and off the field we created a field hockey family, and we all knew we could count on each other as a whole. We kept a positive attitude and mindset, put our best effort forward, and learned more than just skills about field hockey. I know many of my teammates, including myself, can say we learned very important life skills. Field hockey at our school is definitely a growing program. Numbers for our team increase every year and I hope this continues in the future.
Our athletic department at Central Valley makes sure all the sports we have here get the absolute best opportunities. Not only do we have an amazing turf for our teams to practice on, but we also had a great coaching staff this season as well. No matter the sport you play here at CVA, I guarantee you'll have a great experience.
CVA GIRLS' SOCCER
by Mallory Mower
The 2022 CVA Girls' Soccer team finished their season with 16 wins and just 4 loses. They outscored their opponents 92 to 17. The team won the TVL defeating VVS, Oneida, and Notre Dame twice. They fell short of a Section 3 Class B title in Cortland, NY, getting defeated by the number 1 seed Westhill. Senior, Megan Canipe, was tied for second in the section with 27 assists. The team defeated their rivals Whitesboro 3-1 with an outstanding goal from Mari Ferdula. Overall, the girls had an amazing season. Thanks to the coaches, the boosters, and the fans for going beyond the bar of support to the team. Good job girls!
CVA VARSITY FOOTBALL
by Rain Magog
The varsity football team went 5-5. All 5 losses were to state-ranked teams, and CVA lost by only a few points. It was a great season for them because it was the first time CVA made it to the semi-finals. The top defensive players were Ray Watson, Sam Jacquays, Sixx Cook, Nathan Shaver, Tanner Warren, Tom Jacquays, and Ethan Randall. The top offensive players were Sam Jacquays, Landon LaFountain, Connor Dempsey, Miles Perry, Nathan Shaver, and Brady Moreau. Sam Jacquays had the most touchdowns. According to Nathan Shaver, all the guys built a fantastic bond and a brotherhood and became a family. They all have a huge passion for football and worked hard during the off-season. Sectionals for them was very exciting and they were more fired up than in the regular season. They wanted to bring the win home for the school, coaches, teammates, parents, and fans, and for themselves. Nate went on to explain that it was a great experience for all of them, and there will be many more opportunities for CVA to be in sectionals.
