The Innovation Lab is a resource to inspire and enable student design. Even the planning and creation of the lab itself was a product of student work. In 2017, upon receiving approval of the grant from Baxter that made the lab possible, students at Lindblom Math and Science Academy began working on a design for the space.
Create a state-of-the-art prototyping and design center that provides students with the resources to fabricate and test any idea, expose them to unbounded opportunities to fully exercise their imagination, and expand on student creativity through innovative curriculum and real-world design.
Multifunctional Usage
Collaborative and Individual Projects
Long term sustainability
Community engagement
High mix low volume capabilities
Large & small scale projects
High speed prototyping and high precision fabrication
Hands on experience with industry standard tools.
With this in mind, Denilson Saavedra (Class of '17) began defining and designing the space that would become the innovation lab.
As a senior at Lindblom Math and Science Academy, Denilson Saavedra (Class of 2017) applied his Design and Architectural skills to plan out the renovations for the creation of the innovation lab. The following presentation outlines his design work.
Denilson attended the Illinois Institute of Technology pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Pursuing his interest in functional and aesthetic design and working to improve the infrastructure of communities around the country.
The initial design work involved mapping out the old book room and envisioning a new space for innovation!
Once the renovations were complete, it was time to set up the equipment, furniture and workspaces:
After many many hours of work we had built one of the coolest spaces in all of CPS.
