SHAMPOO

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Which shampoo will have more tensile strength?

HYPOTHESIS

If you use Pantene Pro V on a hair sample, then it will have more tensile strength than Herbal Essences, Garnier Fructis, or a homemade shampoo.

MATERIALS

MATERIALS FOR HOMEMADE SHAMPOO

  • 1 Spring Scale Gauge

  • Pantene Pro-V (10ml)

  • Herbal Essences (10ml)

  • Garnier Fructis (10ml)

  • Homemade shampoo (10ml)

  • 1 liter breaker (250ml)

  • 75 strands of hair extensions.

  • 4 sheets of paper

  • 1 pencil

  • 1 white cotton towel

  • Hair blow dryer

  • Containers or bottles for shampoo, 16 oz (2)

  • Measuring cup

  • Tablespoons (at least one)

  • Teaspoons (at least one)

  • Bowls (2)

  • Full fat coconut milk (14 fl oz can)

  • Honey (2 tablespoons)

  • Jojoba oil (2 teaspoons)

  • Olive oil (1 teaspoon)

  • Apple Cider vinegar (2 tablespoons)

  • Essential oil (lavender or lemon) (1 teaspoons)

PROCEDURES

PROCEDURE FOR HOMEMADE SHAMPOO

  1. Gather 10 strands of hair for each of the 4 trails.

  2. Gather 10ml of each of the following shampoos: Garnier Fructis, Herbal Essences, Pantene Pro-V, and your homemade shampoo.

  3. Mix the Pantene Pro V shampoo above with 250ml of water at 40*C.

  4. Take 6 strands of hair that you've gathered and drop them into the shampoo/water mixture.

  5. Swish the 5 hair for 10 seconds.

  6. Rinse the six hairs in 250ml of clean water for 20 seconds.

  7. Take the strand of hair out of the water.

  8. Use a white cotton towel to dry the hair.eolive

  9. Use a blow dryer to dry the hair until it is almost dry.

  10. Use a pressure gauge to measure the pressure until the breakage point in the hair.

  11. Take one stand of hair at the time and pull it until it breaks.

  12. Record the amount of the pressure.

  13. Repeat steps 3-12 for the other shampoos.

  14. Average them out and write down the average amount of pressure for the shampoos.

  1. Start with gathering all of the ingredients.

  2. In a bowl, start off by adding 1 can of milk.

  3. Then add 2 tablespoons of honey and apple cider vinegar.

  4. After that add 1 teaspoon of jojoba oil, olive oil, and essential oil.

  5. Mix everything together.

  6. Finally, pour the mixture in a bottle or container.

VARIABLES

Independent Variable- Different shampoos; Pantene Pro-V, Herbal Essences, Garnier Fructis, and homemade shampoo.

Dependent Variable- When it breaks

Constants- Type and amount of hair, amount of shampoo, amount of strength applied

Control (if applicable)- Hair without shampoo

DATA

RESULTS

My hypothesis was correct. Pantene Pro-V was the best of all shampoos I tried. It was the one with the best tensile strength. The results indicate that it was the best because we tested it out and compared it with different shampoos to see which one would be the best of all. Because of the results of this experiment, I wonder how other shampoos will react.

CONCLUSION

Which shampoo has the best tensile strength of all? My hypothesis was that the Pantene Pro-V would have the best tensile strength. I base my hypothesis on the idea that the Pantene Pro-V shampoo would be the best. The results of my hypothesis show that the Pantene Pro-V shampoo is the one with the best tensile strengths of all. My hypothesis was correct. The results indicate that it was the best because we tested it out and compared it with different shampoos to see which one would be the best of all. Because of the results of this experiment, I wonder how other shampoos will react.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this project was to prove that the Pantene Pro-V had the best tensile strength of all four shampoos. I picked this project because I wanted to see which shampoo had the best tensile strength. My hypothesis is that the Pantene Pro-V will have the best tensile strength. I tested my hypothesis by trying the different shampoos on various strands of hair extensions and watching which one has the best tensile strength. My hypothesis was correct.

I found that the best shampoo was the Pantene Pro-V shampoo and the homemade shampoo was the one with the least tensile strength. I think a factor that impacted the result of my experiment was that I didn’t pull the strands of hair extensions with the same amount of strength for each shampoo. This information is useful to the world for them to know which shampoo is best for hair. I could improve this experiment by testing more types of shampoos to see which one is the best. With the results I get, I will keep testing more and more shampoos to see what shampoo is the best of all.

To make this experiment, I prepared my materials. I got two bowls, one had a mixture of water and shampoo and the other one had pure water. I first put the hair extensions in the mixture of water and shampoo and then I let it soak there for 5 minutes. After that I got the hair extensions and put them in the water to get the shampoo out of the hair. I got a towel and dried the extensions. Then I blow dried it until it was fully dry. Finally, I got the spring scale gauge and pulled every piece of hair extension and saw which one broke first.

APPLICATION

In my experiment, the Pantene Pro-V showed that is was the one with the best tensile strength of all. This information is useful to the world by knowing which has the best tensile strength and has the least probability of falling.
