What cleaning product is most effective when cleaning bacteria filled surfaces?
If I use Bleach to clean the bacterial filled surface, then the result will be better and cleaner than if I were to use Windex and/or Mistolin
10 sprays of bleach
10 sprays of windex
10 sprays of Mistolin
squeeze the bottle of Ketchup 4 times per space
A spatula of Mustard per space
One cookie (that will be crumpled) per space
3 petri dishes
3 little containers
10 grams of agar
Measuring cup
330ML cup of water
6 cotton swabs
tape( to divide the spaces)
working microwave
1 plastic spoon
A sharpy
Paper towels
Gather materials
Use tape to divide the space into 3 spaces
Dirty your surface with the ingredients your going to use
Fill your measuring cup to 330ML of neutral water
Pour in the 10 grams of agar in the water
Mix/stir it with a plastic spoon
Put it in the microwave for 4 mintues
Take it out and let it cool down for 3 mintues
Pour it in the petri dish and put the cap on it
Grab a cotton swab and test each space before you can clean it
Rub it on the petri dishes
Do the same with the other spaces
Clean the first space with your first product
Do the same with the other spaces and products
Ger a cotton swab and test it after you clean it
Rub it on the petri dish
Wait for 4-6 days until the results start to show
Record your data
Repeat all steps for a total of 3 trials.
Dependent Variable- the cleanliness of the area
Independent Variable- different cleaning sollutions: windex, lysol wipes, and bleach
Constant- petri dishes, evenly dirty surface, cotton swabs, agar, and how much of a product I use
Control- area with no cleaning solution
My results were inconclusive in a way because the petri dishes were only showing little bits of bacteria which means I probably did something wrong and I just don't know where I went wrong, but in another way they all cleaned/ worked the same.
Do you ever doubt that the cleaning product you buy isn’t the best one to actually clean your space? If you do, my project should help you out. My problem statement was; what cleaning product is most effective when cleaning a bacteria filled surface? The way I formed my hypothesis was that I started realizing that a lot of people were always making sure that they had lysol/disinfecting wipes because supposedly, it was the best product for cleaning dirty areas, but what if it wasn’t actually the best product to use? When I tested out my hypothesis, I ended up realizing that all three products I used cleaned the same, the products I used were Mistolin, Windex and bleach. The difference of the outcome between the surface with Mistolin, Windex, and Bleach was not that noticeable than I expected it to be. Even though using Windex to clean the surface was easier than when I used Bleach and Mistolin, it cleaned the exact same way. With Mistolin it took me a while and I didn’t really expect that, with Windex it didn’t take as long but the result had no difference than the other products I used
My problem statement is What cleaning product is most effective when cleaning bacteria filled surfaces. I chose this project because since there is a pandemic going on in our lives right now, everyone is focused on getting the best cleaning products possible to stay safe, but then I thought, what if everyone were buying lysol wipes, but in reality the best product to buy would be windex or other cleaning materials? In my hypothesis I believed that if I use bleach to clean the bacteria filled surface, then the result would be better and cleaner than if I were to use windex and/or disinfecting wipes. My result was inconclusive. The reason how I found out it was inconclusive was because when the days past I went to go check on the petri dishes and the bacteria hadn’t formed, I’m not really sure what I did wrong
This could be of use or help people on an everyday basis because we always need to be constantly cleaning our areas or homes especially now with the pandemic happening
