Will mold grow faster on a wet bread than a dry bread?
If I leave bread in a dark room(cabinet) rather than in a refrigerator then the mold will faster in the dark room.
2 slices of Nature own honey wheat bread
2 ziplock bags
Measuring spoons
1 cup of water
A dark room
paper towel.
Gather all materials
Open the bag and get 2 slices of bread out.Now get paper and lay it flat on the table.
After you get your bread and place it down. You get the ziplock. Open the box and take 2 bags out. Lay them on the table
Grab a cup and fill it up with water. Bring it to the table and place it down.
Get your measuring spoons and place them on the table.
Grab the measuring spoons and grab the one that says 1 Teaspoon. Grab your cup of water and the spoon and put the spoon in the water and get some water.
Grab The bread and the water put the water on the bread.
Now grab one ziplock bag and open it. Grab the bread that has water in it and put it in the ziplock bag that you opened.
Put the bread in the ziplock bag.
Grab the other bread and other ziplock bag. Open the ziplock bag and put the bread (dry) in it.
Grab both bags filled with bread and walk to the dark room that you are putting the bread in. After that put it in.
Check on it every 3 days
Dependent Variable- Which One would grow mold faster.
Independent Variable Two pieces of bread one with water on it amd one without.
Constant Nature's own type of bread, the ziploc bag that it is in,the dark room it is in, be kept in a dark room 4 weeks.
This is all the information you collected in your experiment. Here you will place your pictures and graphs.

The wet one grew more mold the the one that isn’t wet.
How fast can mold grow on food? My hypothesis was “If I leave bread in a dark room rather than in a refrigerator then the mold will grow faster in the dark room.”My materials were that we had to get 2 breads. One of those breads was wet and one wasn’t. I wanted to see if the wet bread would grow mold faster. My hypothesis was correct. Mold grows faster in a dark room. A lot of mold grew on the wet bread, only a little bit grew on the dry bread. If i were to do this project again I would use different food to see if some foods take longer. I would see if I need to add water or not
My problem statement was How fast mold grows on food in dark places. The purpose of my project was to see how fast mold grows on wet bread then on dry bread. It was to show if there is wet food to not leave it in a dark place. It was to also show that just because it doesn’t show the mold doesn’t mean it isn’t growing. I am showing how fast mold can grow if your food is wet and left in a dark place.
My hypothesis was “ If I leave bread in a dark room (cabinet) rather than a refrigerator then the mold will grow faster in the dark.” My hypothesis was correct. The mold started growing faster in the dark room. I left my bread for 4 weeks in the dark room. One bread was wet the other wasn’t the dry bread takes longer than the wet bread but it is still there growing.
First step you need to get your materials. You need to grab your 2 slices of bread, get paper towel and lay it flat on the table. Then get two ziploc bags and put them on the table beside the bread. Now grab a cup and fill it with water. Get the measuring spoons and place them on the table. Grab the measuring spoons and grab the one that says 1tablespoon. Now grab the cup of water and the spoon and put the spoon in the water and get some water. Grab the bread and put the water on the bread. After grab one ziploc bag and put the wet bread in the ziploc bread. After grabbing the non-wet bread and put it in the ziploc bag.Once you're done with all that, grab both ziploc bags and walk to the dark room you are keeping the bread in and keep it in there. Check on it every 3 days.
I found a bunch of mold on the wet bread but on the dry bread not much but there was some. The reason it was growing is because there are particles in the air that land on damp food and instead of it not growing it grows. Mold feeds itself with all the chemicals it has in it. So, it starts growing and food starts to rot because of mold. That is how mold grows and why it grows so fast on damp food.
This project helps because now you know not to leave food in dark places especially when it is wet. Make sure your food isn’t wet when you leave it in a pantry or a dark place like a cabinet or drawer. This experiment can be improved by trying other foods. Some foods might take longer but you get to see the results. You can also put different liquids to see if anything changes or you don’t even need to do food see how fast mold grows on the ground.
This project can help in real life because now if you wet bread and just leave it in a dark room even if it’s just for 3 days mold can grow or if you leave food in a dark room for a while it can grow.
