What amount of water makes plants grow best?
Which Zinnia flower does not drown and does not die the soonest?
If I water the Zinnia flower with a ⅓ cup of water daily, then it will grow faster than with ¼ cup or ½ cup of water.
Nine Zinnias Seeds
Small Pots
Three Cups of Dirt
Either ¼ cup, ⅓ cup, or ½ cup of Water
Gather materials
Add 1 cup of dirt to three pots
Add three seeds to each pot
Add ¼ Cup to plant A
Add ⅓ Cup to plant B
Add ½ Cup to Plant C
Repeat steps 4-6 daily until the plant has fully grown { About 2-3 weeks}
Repeat all the steps for a total of three trials
Independent Variable- The different amounts of water
Dependent Variable- How fast the Zinnia flower grows
Constants- The type of water, the frequency that you water it, the type of plant, soil, pot, sunlight, environment
A 1/4 of water is the best amount of water to use when growing common plants.
Which amount of water is the perfect amount to water your plants? Well for my Science Fair project I tested just that. I got three different measurements of water ¼ cup, ⅓ cup, and ½ cup and I grew a Zinnia flower. The plant with a ¼ cup of water actually grew the best out the three. I watered the plants every other day and the flower with a ¼ cup of water sprouted first and grew the fastest/tallest and healthiest in the matter of two weeks!
The purpose of this project is to find the perfect amount of water for common garden plants. For my project the plant that I used was the Zinnia flower, but you can use other flowers such as Lavender, Roses, Tulips, Lilies, Pansy, Sweet Peas and more. The measurements of water that I used were ¼ cup, ⅓ cup and ½ cup. In this experiment the plant did not fully grow. But one plant with a certain amount of water grows the fastest/tallest, and the healthiest.
In this project, I was able to determine that the perfect amount of water for any common plant is ¼ cup. When watering the plants I saw that when you water the plant with ½ cup, the plant would tend to drown or leak/drain all the water you poured, and when you water it in ⅓ cup, they wouldn’t drown but it wouldn’t be able to hold all that water it would leak and drain the water but less water then the plant with ½ cup of water.
When I used a ¼ cup of water and added it to my plant. The plant immediately absorbed it all. None of the excess water leaked all over the place because, guess what! There was no excess water! It was the perfect amount!
So next time when you plant a common plant like any of them listed above make sure to use a ¼ cup of water!
If you want to grow a plant and you want the perfect amount of water. It is 1/4 cup of water.
