What is Special Needs Preschool (SNP)?
The CCS Special Needs Preschool Program provides early intervention opportunities and Individualized Education Program (IEP) services for those children ages 3 - 5 who have been identified as having special needs in one of the following developmental areas based on the state and federal guidelines:
Language
Cognition
Motor Skills
Adaptive Behavior
Social-Emotional Development
Columbus City Schools (CCS) is responsible for locating all children birth through 21 years of age with a suspected disability who reside within the Columbus City School district. CCS Special Needs Preschool program collaborates with Head Start programs, preschools, daycare centers, and several county agencies to identify and locate children ages 3-5 with suspected disabilities. SNP REFERRAL PROCESS
Students already in CCS preschool classrooms should be provided interventions prior to being referred for an SNP evaluation. Each general education preschool teacher has an early childhood education coordinator to consult with about concerns in their classroom. To refer for an SNP evaluation, the ECE classroom concerns form should be completed in its entirety.
