Dr. McClure, founder of School Psych AI
Oct. 18, 2024 -- Dr. McClure, a National Certified School Psychologist, is the CEO and founder of School Psych AI and Lessons for SEL. Dr. McClure came back to CCS and talked about how educators can use strengths-based tools to enhance staff and student well-being. He is also a noted speaker and best-selling co-author of *Hacking Deficit Thinking*. Dr. McClure has over 10 years of experience working as a school psychologist in Maryland and Washington, D.C. Dr. McClure's mission is to improve outcomes for youth and historically marginalized communities by shifting mindsets from "what's wrong to what's STRONG!" He seeks to help school psychologists flourish in their work.

Laura Bentley: Caseload Efficiency
10/31/24 - School Psychologist Laura Bentley presented an Excel program she created that will track and update large evaluation caseloads. Her program automates and creates efficiencies to help school psychologists track all the various evaluation requirements. Stay tuned for an upcoming video tutorial!

10/31/24 - Scott Buckley, CCS Hearing Impaired School Psychologist, reviewed how school psychologists can approach hearing impaired evaluations. Data was provided on trends and new technology that impact students with hearing impairments.

10/31/24 - Amy Comford, OT/PT supervisor, presented to the school psychology team on how to use assistive technology (AT) within their evaluation process. AT can be any device or service that is required for the student to access the curriculum.

In her video (left), Heather reveals innovative techniques for psychologists to integrate yoga into their work with students, addressing trauma and fostering resilience. Her yoga training focuses on helping students process and overcome traumatic experiences. Students who participated in Heather's yoga groups showed a significant boost in school attendance! Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability. Dyslexia refers to a cluster of symptoms, which result in people having difficulties with specific language skills, particularly reading. Students with dyslexia usually experience difficulties with other language skills such as spelling, writing, and pronouncing words. Dyslexia affects individuals throughout their lives; however, its impact can change at different stages in a person’s life. It is referred to as a learning disability because dyslexia can make it very difficult for a student to succeed academically in the typical instructional environment
The Center for Suicide Prevention and Research is offering free, quarterly trainings with CEUs for SOS school partners in Risk Assessment and Safety Planning with students!
Unconscious Bias in Schools by Tracey A. Benson & Sarah E. Fiarman
The department is conducting a year-long book study on this book with the help of two CCS social-emotional support specialists.

The department conducted PD on 1/18/22 and 2/2/22 regarding how to write reports that will be more useful to parents and educators. This professional development activity is part of an on-going discussion using the book written by M. Hass and J. Carriere. Additional information was obtained from Dr. Carriere's interview through the School Psyched Podcast School Psychologists were also encouraged to use an online calculator to assess the readability of the their reports.
Provided to all staff at the beginning of the year. The Energy Bus emphasizes the power of optimism, vision, and leadership, offering actionable strategies to overcome negativity and achieve personal and professional success.
On November 2, 2021, Dr. Kisha Radliff, School Psychology Professor at OSU, Mrs. Stephanie Flood, School Psychology Doctorate student at OSU, and Mr. Brett Page, CCS School Psychologist facilitated training on Zones of Regulation (ZOR) and Mind Up. All staff received training materials and information from the facilitators who actually implemented these programs.
The school psychologists open every professional development session and department meeting with a mindfulness activity.
Mindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you're sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress (www.mayoclinic.org)

Mindfulness has been found to boost our immune system, improve sleep quality, increase positive emotions and reduce negative emotions and stress, and increase focus. It has also been found to increase the density of gray matter in brain regions linked to learning, memory, emotion regulation, and empathy.
