The Mentor and Evaluation Program

We believe in the Power of One! Columbus City Schools recognizes the power one person has to influence many as we strive to recruit and retain high quality school psychologists. Joining the largest school district in Ohio can be overwhelming without receiving the necessary support provided on a consistent basis. The mentor and evaluation program has been designed to offer new school psychologists the support, guidance, and feedback needed to function efficiently and effectively within Columbus City Schools.
The initial mentor program began in 2001 with new school psychologists being assigned mentor psychologists. In 2015, the department's program was enhanced to include additional methods of support. New school psychologists receive multiple layers of support, including:
  • An assigned peer mentor psychologist
  • Monthly mentor meetings to discuss relevant topics
  • Weekly check-in sessions with assigned mentor psychologist
  • Formal and informal observations
  • Ongoing coaching and feedback from assigned mentor psychologists and supervisors
