The information below is a brief summary of areas of study and learning program only, for more detailed information please access the VCAA VCE Physical Education Study Design using the link below.
Areas of study
How does the musculoskeletal system work to produce movement?
How does the cardiorespiratory system function at rest and during physical activity?
Learning program & assessment:
The majority of the learning program is theory based with a small number of practical activities
Practical activities are completed to collect data and information about how the musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory systems work to produce movement during exercise
Assessment consists of written tests and written reports analysing performance in practical activities
Areas of study
How do physical activity, sport and exercise contribute to healthy lifestyles?
What are the contemporary issues associated with physical activity and sport?
Learning program & assessment:
The learning program in entirely theory based
Students collect physical activity and sedentary behaviour data and plan physical activity promotions
Area of Study 2 consists of a detailed study where students are required to research and present information on a chosen contemporary issue related to physical activity and sports participation. This unit takes place over roughly six weeks, with the learning being student driven
Areas of study
How are movement skills improved?
How does the body produce energy?
Learning program & assessment:
Students complete a number of practical activities in order to collect and analyse data.
The learning program is mostly theory based with different application tasks completed to learn the content in different ways.
Assessments for the unit consist of written tests and a laboratory report based on primary data collected during participation in a practical activity, which analyses the acute responses to exercise, as well as the contribution of different energy systems.
Areas of study
What are the foundations of an effective training program?
How does the body produce energy?
Learning program & assessment:
Students complete a number of practical activities in order to collect and analyse data.
Students will need to participate in certain practical activities to collect data to be analyses from the theory based viewpoint.
Assessments in this unit include a written report, responses to a case study, structured questions and an extended response piece drawing on personal experiences from a chosed practical activity.
