Areas of study
What does health and wellbeing mean (dimensions of health and wellbeing), what are the different perspectives of and influences on health and wellbeing and how is health measured in Australia (health indicators)?
What role does nutrition play in maintaining optimal health and wellbeing, what influences our dietary choices and what food selection models can we use to support healthy eating?
What are the major health concerns facing youth in today’s society, how do they impact our health and wellbeing and what support services are there for people who experience this issue?
Learning program & assessment:
The learning program is entirely theory based.
Students will explore the key knowledge and key skills through a range of learning activities including classroom and group discussions, podcasts, structured questions, case study analysis and interactive activities.
Students will be assessed through three written tests (one for each area of study)
Areas of study
What are the various stages of the human lifespan, how does youth development change as they transition to adulthood and what are healthy and respectful relationships?
What is the role of parents and carers throughout the prenatal development stage of the human lifespan and how can they ensure optimal development during infancy?
What health care services are available for youth in the local and wider community and what are the rights and responsibilities youth have when accessing these?

Students will be assessed through three written tests (two for area of study 1 and one for area of study 2).
Areas of study
What does health mean in Australia (dimensions of health and wellbeing, health status and prerequisites for health) and what are the reasons for variations in health status between population groups (eg. males and females)?
How has health status been improved in Australia through the models of health, Australian health system (eg. Medicare) and initiatives to promote health (smoking, Indigenous health and wellbeing and healthy eating).

Students will explore the key knowledge and key skills through a range of learning activities including classroom and group discussions, podcasts, structured questions, case study analysis and interactive activities.
Students will be assessed through three written tests (two for area of study 1 and one for area of study 2).
Areas of study
What are the differences between high-, middle- and low-income countries, the reasons for variations in health status between these countries (eg. poverty) and the role global trends in contributing to these differences (eg. climate change)?
What actions are being taken to improve global health including the role of the different types of aid, Sustainable Development Goals, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and World Health Organisation?
