Learning program & assessment:
The learning program is approximately 50% practical. Students prepare to perform solo or group based music on an instrument of their choosing.
Students create a folio of brief musical compositions, demonstrating their understanding of how music is organised.
Students learn analytical skills and techniques in regards to musical organisation. Students identify and notate musical examples encountered both in notated and aural form.

How can performers shape their music to convey specific musical effects?
How can new music be created to convey specific musical effects?
How can the elements of music be used to convey musical effects?

Students create short music works/responses that exhibit their understanding of different approaches to musical effects.
Students learn analytical skills and techniques in regards to musical effects. Students identify and notate musical examples encountered both in notated and aural form.

Students demonstrate an understanding of how technical and interpretive decisions can enhance their musical performance.
Students learn analytical skills and techniques in regards to interpretation of music. Students identify and notate musical examples encountered both in notated and aural form.

How can research and understanding of scores and recordings improve performance outcomes?
How can an understanding of musical elements and interpretation of musical repertoire inform performance?
Learning program & assessment:
The learning program is approximately 50% practical. Students prepare to present a recital of solo or group based music on an instrument of their choosing.
Students study the scores and recordings produced by relevant musicians with the aim of informing and improving their performance outcomes.
Students learn analytical skills and techniques in regards to interpretation leading to character in music. Students identify and notate musical examples encountered both in notated and aural form
