Trip to Harvest Outing

The second exciting Grade 0 trip to report back on, was the autumn outing to Josie and Dirk van den Berg’s home just up the road from Clifton. Their picturesque farm overlooks the magnificent Spring Grove Dam and this, together with the turnip fields and herds of cows, was the backdrop to our day.

Here, the boys and girls climbed into the ‘pooey’ calf pens, walked the dusty roads, saw the workings of a very modern dairy, drank fresher than fresh farm milk and picnicked out in the warm autumn air. Again, the weather was perfect and our hosts just as charming.

The highlight of this outing had to be climbing up onto the silos, running along them and sliding off the other end. This was an outing based on a day of hands-on learning and overcoming fears when sliding down the silos. Just another day in the life of a Grade 0!
