‘A Walk down Memory Lane’
What a delight it was to see the return of Old Cliftonian’s from the classes 1959 – 1963 to our campus, many of whom had not been back on Clifton soil for more than 30 years! Within minutes of their arrival, delighted gasps upon seeing long-lost friends, followed by excited murmurings of ‘remember when…’ could be heard echoing around the tea table.
An enjoyable amble around the campus, led by Mr Prinsloo was punctuated with many stops along the way for the telling of entertaining stories and moments of reminiscing about what Clifton was like 60 odd years ago. The Old Boys also marvelled at the wonderful developments that have occurred over the years and many comparisons were drawn between the facilities - ‘then and now’.
Lunch in the Dining Hall brought back floods of familiar memories and offered an ideal opportunity for our special guests to catch up with one another over a delicious meal.
A busy day was then topped off with a superb dinner at Fordoun and yet another chance for all present to further reconnect and immerse themselves in tales of the ‘good old days’.
Mr Anthony Daniel (Class of 1960) had a particularly special objective during his visit; to honour his late father, Mr James ‘Pops’ Daniel for his immeasurable contribution to sport at Clifton between 1956 and 1976. Invited guests gathered in the Sports Pavilion on Saturday morning to witness the unveiling of a plaque in ‘Pops’ Daniel’s name before heading outside to join in the support of our young Clifton ambassadors as they boldly took on their opponents from Cordwalles.
All too soon it was time to say goodbye but plans are already afoot for another reunion and this time we hope to welcome even more of our valued Clifton alumni to join in the fun!
