Promoting mental wellbeing is a very important part of the life and ethos of our school and it is a key aspect of our school improvement plan.
Primary one to seven are learning about the Zones of Regulation. This programme of work helps children to name how they are feeling and gain skills in regulating their emotions. The image below demonstrates how we can sort emotions into 4 different zones.

We are delighted to have achieved a silver mental health award for the work that our pupils, parents staff and partners have been doing to promote mental health within our school community.
At Muirtown Primary we are committed to promoting positive mental health for all. We aim to do this by equipping children with the language needed to talk about their emotions and teach them the skills needed to cope with them.
Emotion works is an educational programme designed to teach children how our emotions work. It helps children identify their triggers, how emotions can affect their behaviour and allows them to explore their self regulation strategies. This programme is used with children in the nursery.
Our Emotion Workers are a group of children selected from each class. They meet regularly and will be involved in spreading the message of looking after our mental health. Here they are below. Hollie and Kayleigh were missing on photograph day.
