We have formed a pupil leadership group called the 'Reading Champs'. Our Reading Champs have helped us gain our Core and Silver Reading Schools Awards and are working hard to lead us towards a Gold Reading Schools Award!
Our Reading Champs have been very busy promoting reading for pleasure across our school!
Our Reading Champs have introduced different classes to a game called 'Book Jenga'. It is great fun! Some of the jenga blocks have questions on them which encourage everyone to talk about books.
Our Reading Champs have been exploring all the different areas across our school which promote reading for pleasure.
Our Reading Champs have asked classes to share what they are reading with the rest of our school by putting a special sign on their classroom doors!
Our Reading Champs visited our nursery to check out where they can read for pleasure!
We looked at all the books we had available in our library areas and decided that we should have a more diverse selection of books which represent different cultures, races and languages. We ordered some new books and took time to read them before sharing them with the rest of our school.
EXCITING NEWS!!!!
Our Reading Champs are delighted to share that we have been awarded our first Reading Schools Award!! 7/2/24
16th Feb 2024
Today our Reading Champs worked together to complete our Silver Action Plan.
We are all very excited to begin this next chapter in our Reading Schools journey.
We have been very lucky to receive a grant from the local Ward fund for our reading project. We are using the money to purchase new books for our library. These new books are going to be in different languages that some of us speak at home. We want everyone to know that their home language is valued and respected in our school.
Book Fair
We held a whole school book fair in April. All classes had opportunities to visit the book fair and we were excited to find out that we raised more than £500 in commission from the sales.
Our Reading Champs visited the book fair and chose books to buy with the commission for our library areas. We hope everyone enjoys the new books!
Our Book Bus
Our Reading Champs wanted to encourage everyone to enjoy reading outdoors so we bought a cart and turned it into a book bus.
The book bus is taken out into the playground on nice days and children are able to select a book to read.
We all love our book bus!
Lunch Time Reading Fun
Lots of our children love graphic novels so our Reading Champs decided to set up a lunch time reading club. This gives children the opportunity to enjoy books and to play games linked to some of their favourite characters.
