Rainbow Yodas

The Rainbow Yodas are a wonderful group of Primary 1 and 2 pupils who are working together to understand, explore and promote inclusion, equality and diversity within their school community.

We have been practising a welcome song and how to say hello in

English, Gaelic, French and Polish.

We thought long and hard about what it means to be a family and together chose four words that we felt describes this: Caring, Sharing, Loving, Team.

We thought about lots of different families and coloured in family pictures, glued on our words and displayed them in the canteen for everyone to see (after showing everyone at assembly).

We read a book together about how boring it would be if there was only one colour of pencil to make pictures with, and how wonderful it is to have lots of different colours of pencils to make our pictures fun and exciting. We thought this was like people, we’re all the same but different and our differences make us fun and exciting.

We thought it would be nice to see pictures of people showing differences (diversity) and decided that having sports posters in the P.E Hall would be a good way of sharing this and help to inspire us in P.E at the same time.

Next, we are going to make sets of finger puppets, showing children from all around the world, which we can play with in our classrooms. We are also going to make a set of puppets for school resources, so any class can have a play with them.
