The Challoner's Baccalaureate

In addition to their three or four academic subjects, students will also take part in activities to help broaden their skills and experiences. These are listed below along with some key timings for when this activities should be undertaken:

CBacc - Volunteering

This is your opportunity to make a positive difference to other people’s lives and to use your skills and experience to help in their local community.

The expectation is that all students will do some volunteering in the local community (primary schools, charity shops, old peoples’ homes etc.) This is something that the students themselves need to organise although we have a number of primary schools who have requested students who we will try to place. Ideally this will take the form of 1-2 hours per week and students should arrange it around their academic timetable. Students have the first half term to arrange their volunteering and should complete it between November and March.

CBacc - Team Challenges

The main aspect to this is the Team Challenges which will take place each term within your Div. There is also the expectation that each student will involve themselves in some sort of Team Experience (sports team, musical ensemble, society, group trip abroad etc.). We would also encourage students to consider planning a Team Adventure over the course of their time in the Sixth Form.

CBacc - Higher Level Task

This provides students with the opportunity to look into an area of interest in real detail without the constraints of the EPQ paperwork. It should be something that is going to benefit them in their university application and could take a wide range of different activities (MOOCs, additional exams, reading around and presenting on a topic above the syllabus, learning to code etc.) Students should decide what they are going to do at the start of the spring term and should complete the work before the October half term of Y13.

EPQ

This option is compulsory for all students studying 3 A Level subjects. The EPQ is a chance to undertake a sizable project, on a topic area of a student’s own choice, to be completed by Easter. Students will have a one hour lesson which will go through the key aspects of the EPQ and allow staff to monitor progress. There is also a MOOC on the futurelearn website here which goes through the process in detail.

Lecture Series and Sixth Form Games

Both of these will be on all students timetables and are compulsory to attend. The lecture series will feature a number of different speakers who will give talks on a wide variety of subjects of general interest. Sixth Form Games gives students the opportunity to either represent the school at one of the main sports (football, rugby, netball, hockey and cricket) or take part in the wide range of recreational sports on offer: football, badminton, table tennis, gym/weights, tennis, softball, yoga, or off site activities (climbing, swimming etc.)
