Academic Progress
We take your academic progress very seriously and have in place a number of strategies to monitor how you are doing. These are used to help you achieve your potential in the public examinations and to provide you with good advice about future choices, such as university applications.
If at any time during your Sixth Form education we are seriously concerned about your progress we will discuss this issue with you and contact your parents.
Year 12
Week Four Check
After one month’s study, all Sixth Form teaching staff are asked to alert the Sixth Form pastoral team of any students whose work is giving cause for concern.
November Tests
Each subject sets a public exam style assessment in November to establish whether you have adjusted to the type of study required at Sixth Form level.
Year 12 Consultation Evening
This takes place at the end of the first term and gives staff, students and parents an opportunity to reflect on your progress and to discuss the challenges ahead.
Year 12 Full Written Report
Your annual written report will be issued during the Spring Term.
Formal Internal Examinations
All subjects will set their own rigorous exams which will be crucial in deciding a student’s predicted grade.
A Level Courses Continue
Once the exams are finished in May/June you will return to school to continue courses in all your subjects.
Internal Exam Results Reported
The results of your Internal Exams will heavily influence your UCAS grades.
Year 13
Predicted Grades for UCAS
Shortly after you return in September you will receive your predicted grades for UCAS. These will be entered onto your university form. They take into consideration your general performance during Year 12 along with results from internal examinations sat.
Year 13 Consultation Evening
This takes place early on in the Autumn Term and provides an opportunity to discuss Y12 results and your aspirations for life beyond Challoner’s.
Autumn Profile
Another academic profile is issued in late November to help you gauge your progress through the A level course.
Mock Examinations
These take place following the February half term and are an excellent opportunity to prepare for the final exams.
Final A Level Examinations
These take place in a four or five week period in May/June.
A Level Results
Results are published on the third Thursday in August.
