Punctuality and Absence

It is discourteous to be late for anything you are required to attend and punctuality is something we take very seriously.

Registration

You should be on the school site by 8:35am and move to your registration room at 8:40am. Similarly, in the afternoon, you should be on site by 1:30pm. Registration provides an opportunity for notices to be distributed and you must be present at these times. The same applies to div periods, which you must attend according to the timetable.

Lateness

If you are late to school or otherwise unable to register with your tutor, you must sign the late book, stating the time of your arrival and your reason for lateness. It is a formal document which is regularly monitored.

Absences

All absences must be accounted for with a parental note. If the absence is unexpected, a parent should ring or email Mrs Akerman (sixth-form@challoners.org / 01494 787569) to let her know. If details are known in advance, you should obtain agreement from your div tutor and your subject teachers.

Lunchtimes

As a member of the Sixth Form, you may go into town during the lunch-hour provided that you are back in time for registration. You must behave responsibly and be dressed in full school uniform while there. Food purchased in town must not be consumed in the Sixth Form Centre. Don’t forget that it is in all our interests to maintain the good reputation of Dr Challoner’s. You may not go into town or off-site at other times during the school day without particular permission from a senior member of staff. This opportunity to leave school is a privilege and we reserve the right to withdraw it from any individual whose conduct, academic or otherwise, requires us to do so.

Planned Absence

The school discourages absences for the purpose of holidays, following government guidance that states parents should not take students on holiday in term time. Requests for exceptional leave of absence must be made well in advance, in writing, addressed to the Director of Sixth Form; requests leading up to and during public exams are detrimental to a child’s education and will not be granted. Requests for extended leave for purposes other than holidays should likewise be addressed to the Director of Sixth Form and will be considered on an individual basis.
