Careers

Whilst for most students their focus is on which degree course and which university they want to attend, there are an increasing number of very well respected opportunities for students straight after A Levels. Even for those who don’t know what sort of career they want further down the line, it is always worth being mindful of developing skills that are going to be useful in the job market. Over the course of the year there will be a number of talks and presentations relating to different careers and these will be advertised at assemblies and through your Div tutor.

Careers Fairs and Career Experience Day

Every two years we hold a Careers Fair at DCGS (jointly with DCHS) which is a huge event with well over 100 different employers present. The last event event took place in March 2022.

In addition to the Higher Education Conference at the end of Y12 we also have a Career Experience Day too. These are great opportunities to hear from professionals in a range of careers to get an insight into what their jobs actually involve and how they got where they are now.

Advice and Guidance

At any time in the year you can book an appointment to see Mrs D Beazley, our independent careers consultant, to discuss your future aspirations both in education and in the world of work. To make an appointment with her speak to either Mrs Akerman or Mrs Beazley herself (in the SDO).

The careers library, in Group Room 1, contains a wide range of information on a range of careers as well as university prospectuses.

Work Experience

We have an large database of companies who are prepared to take DCGS students for work experience placements. These are often particularly useful for students interested in going in to a career in the Medical profession. To discuss possible work experience opportunities students can speak to Mrs Baker in the Educational Visits office.

Careers Seminar Sessions

Students have small group sessions discussing careers and future plans in the Spring term of Y12. To access the documents to support these sessions, please use the Google Drive folder here.
