The Law and Notifying the Police

New legislation means that staff have the right to search and confiscate articles and look at the contents of mobile phones and other digital devices with the authority of the Headteacher. Members of the school’s Senior Leadership Team are identified as having authority to search a student for an offensive weapon if there is reasonable suspicion. The school will immediately notify the police when evidence of a criminal act is discovered such as the possession of drugs or possessing a weapon. Criminal damage, possession of indecent material on digital devices or cyber-bullying may also be reported. The school would only use the powers to restrain a student when an individual is in danger or putting others in danger.

Parents will be notified should it be necessary to call the police or in any situation which could be seen as breaking the law.
