The School Code of Conduct for Behaviour
The school works very hard to promote high standards of behaviour, seeking to be firm and fair and to act in accordance with our emphasis on equality issues. We welcome and depend on the support of parents in upholding standards so that students are safe, happy and able to learn.
The student planner contains the following school codes of conduct which all students are required to sign and adhere to. We would ask you to read and support them:
Please familiarise yourself with the school’s Behaviour Policy and Anti-Bullying Policy which can be viewed on the website.
In school
The principles of mutual respect and self-discipline are necessary to maintain a positive and happy school ethos. Violent behaviour including retaliation will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
On journeys to and from school
Good conduct is equally important when travelling to and from school when school rules must be observed. Failure to do so may well result in sanctions being imposed including a ban from using school transport. Repeated poor behaviour can result in confiscation of the bus pass and withdrawal of transport. Bus passes must be carried on all journeys and if a student does not have his pass on him, he may be refused travel.
Students may not leave the school site to go into Amersham once they have arrived at school by coach or car. Students who walk or cycle to school may not purchase items of food or drink in Amersham on the way to school.
Digital Device Use
Every student has access to various IT facilities. All students sign a Digital Device Use and Network User Agreement in their planner which forbids the misuse of computers, iPads and other electronic equipment. Students who contravene regulations will be subject to disciplinary action and may be banned from the Computing rooms. Serious incidents of computer misuse may also lead to an exclusion.
Bullying
We do not tolerate any form of bullying at DCGS and every year we support the national Anti-Bullying Week campaign. Students should be familiar with the school’s expectations and the anti-bullying charter is displayed in every classroom and printed in their planners.
Social networking sites can be a particular concern. The minimum age for many such sites is 13 years old. The school will respond to complaints about bullying or misuse of social networking sites in the same way it would to any events outside school that impact on relationships in school. Photos and videos taken in school must not be uploaded onto such sites.
Students are encouraged to discuss any problems which they encounter. If your son seems unhappy at school, please get in touch with the Student Development Office at an early stage. Incidents of bullying may also be reported to student-development@challoners.org. Please see below for our students’ charter on bullying.
Drugs
The school’s policy is of zero tolerance. This applies on school premises as well as on the journey to and from school and school visits. Please remember you can view the drugs policy here.
The school works in partnership with other agencies to provide an effective programme of drugs education. This includes lessons, seminars and visits involving drug search dogs following which support will be offered to any one deemed to be at risk. Parents will be contacted in such instances.
