Pollution is a real world problem that affects us all! It is easy to care when the problem affects you, but we have also learned that we can show empathy when the problem does not directly affect us personally. As social activists, our scholars learned about pollution through the lens of the Dakota Access Pipeline. We connected our third grade water, land, and air pollution standards and our opinion writing standards to justify why the Dakota Access Pipeline should or should not be closed. We also worked with our Georgia Tech GoSTEAM innovator to learn about the power of lines and collage in art. Scholars created opinion writing pieces to and protest posters to take a stand!
Through their use of graphic organizers, third grade scholars worked on their understanding of persuasive writing and structure.
GoSTEAM Innovator in Residence, Mr. Ato, shared his artistic expertise on collage with scholars to support the creation of their protest posters.
