Teachers for the Hearing Impaired

Campbell County School District employs two Teachers for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. One teacher services all elementary schools with a home-based program at Pronghorn Elementary. One teacher services all secondary schools in Campbell County School District. Wright schools are covered by these two teachers if students are identified in these buildings. The program has one interpreter/tutor and two paraprofessionals that support all students identified.

Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provide services in all academic areas either in inclusion settings or in a resource room. Our primary goal is to fill language deficits and to develop sign and self-advocacy skills. This can be in a small group, one- on-one, or inclusion settings. Our philosophy for sign communication is to begin with total communication using SEE II for elementary and reading skills and to transition to ASL for secondary students.

All buildings within Campbell County School District are equipped with room FM systems or portable FM systems when students have this accommodation listed on their Individual Education Program (IEP). The program promotes interaction with the Deaf community, so students have role models.

Emily Bishop

I have a Master of Science in Deaf Education. I worked with the Deaf in other states before I had my own children. Then I was an interpreter or a substitute teacher for the Deaf while they were at home. I have worked for CCSD since 2010.

When a student is eager to learn and accomplishes their goals, it brightens my day. I enjoy seeing students as well as adults communicate using sign language.

I don't really have any hobbies. I enjoy spending time with my husband and my church family.

Romelle Hoon

Interpreter/Tutor

I have worked in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program for 25 years. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Sign Language Interpreter and am certified as a  K-12 Educational Interpreter. I also serve as the  Sound System Technologist at CCSD.

I love working with the students and staff throughout the school district. Everyday is a new adventure.

Living in Wyoming, I enjoy everything outdoors from gardening to hunting and fishing. And as a mother, wife, and grandmother: quilting, crafts and family time warm my heart.

I received a Bachelor's in Education and  Special Education from Black Hills State University. I received my Master's in Deaf Education from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 2004. I started teaching in 1996 as a Resource teacher at Pronghorn Elementary and moved to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program in 2001. I have been teaching for over 20 years.

I love my job.  I have wonderful students and families that I work with for their elementary career. The students become an extended family for me.

Family is my favorite hobby. They are very important to me. I also enjoy sewing and painting with my daughter. A new interest for me is riding horses. I love being active and enjoy the outdoors.
