Physical Therapists

The role of the Physical Therapist in the educational setting is to enable the child the opportunity to better benefit educationally from personalized instruction with sufficient support services. It is the goal of the therapist to ensure the best integration of his/her therapy services into the school program through an understanding of the child’s needs, the needs of the teacher, and the classroom program.

The PT evaluates, plans a program to coordinate PT goals with the student’s total educational program, delivers treatment, and consults to provide information and or training for school personnel and parents.

Areas that can be addressed by the Physical Therapist: sensorimotor development, neuromuscular function, motor development, adaptive equipment, mobility and functional movement.

Joy Lynn Beattie

I received my BS/MS in physical therapy from the University of Montana, Missoula. I practiced in the clinical setting for 10 years specializing in neurology and orthopedics and came to CCSD via BOCES in 2002.

The constant variety of students and their special needs keeps my job interesting. I research ways to provide them with enjoyable therapy techniques.  I also work with a wonderful Special Education staff at SSC and in the schools I service.

I enjoy being with and loving my family, reading while listening to good music, and once in a while, I like to paint.

I studied at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND, graduating with a Master's in Physical Therapy in 2000. I have worked in the CCSD since August of 2000.

I love working with and helping my students become more independent in their academic environment.

I enjoy spending time with family, reading, camping and boating.
