MAR (MULTI-ABILITY ROOM)

The MAR program is currently located at Hillcrest Elementary. At the present time there are two certified staff members with additional para-professionals. 

PURPOSE: (All skills are taught in the resource room and the regular classroom)

-Teach functional academics

• • Modified reading

  • Modified writing

  • Modified math

  • Modified science and social studies

-Teach appropriate behavior and social skills

• • Peer interactions

  • Recess

  • Specials (art, music, PE)

-Teach life skills

• • Eating

  • Toilet training and bathroom skills

  • Cooking

  • Cleaning

  • Safety

  • Personal identification

  • Classroom chores and school jobs

FACTORS TO DETERMINE PLACEMENT

-A moderate to severe cognitive disability concurrent with another disability area (language, vision, hearing, other health, physical disability).

-Requires one or more related services (APE, PT, OT, Augmentative Communication, Speech, O&M, Special Transportation)

-May require assistive technology to accomplish learning goals
