Why should I choose Reducing Carbon Footprints through Enviromental Action?
The CCEA GCSE Leisure, Travel and Tourism specification gives a broad knowledge and understanding of the leisure, travel and tourism industry, which is one of the fastest growing industry in the world.
You will gain insight into current developments in the industry, including technological developments such as social media and the internet.
You will consider the principles of sustainable tourism and investigate attitudes and cultural differences in various destinations, including social customs, dress and food and drink.
Marketing and customer service are major aspects of the industry. You will analyse the effectiveness of promotional material and develop basic customer service skills.
How will I be assessed in this subject?
This is an OCN course and is 100% coursework. It is equivalent to a grade B at GCSE Level.
This course will be assessed through a portfolio of 4 units.

What Will I study?
In this unit you will learn about the causes and impacts of climate change and who is responsible for reducing climate change. We will explore the role of different industries and governments in tackling climate change. You will gain a NI certificate in Carbon Literacy in this unit.
In this unit we will explore all the different groups campaigning for climate change. We will look at how local and social media may be used to advocate and lobby on climate change and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
In this unit we will study the impacts of single use plastics (SUP) and run a campaign to encourage people to refuse, reduce and recycle SUPs.
In this unit we will look at Understand what is meant by fast fashion and its consequences. We will explore how the fashion industry operates and the countries that produce most of our clothing. We will run a campaign to encourage individuals to reuse, reduce and reimagine clothing use.
What career paths are available to me if I study this subject?
There are many opportunities available in this sector and Renewable energy is an ideal career to pursue, since there is a scarce supply of qualified people in this emerging sector. Business are implementing sustainability into their business practices and are expanding the workforce to cater for this. There are a range of apprenticeships available as we move from an over reliance on fossil fuels to more renewable technologies.

Extra Curricular Activities
You will be taking part and organising campaigns and school and community level to raise awareness of climate change and the impact we can have at reducing this. You will have the opportunity to complete a carbon literacy certificate alongside your OCN qualification. We will have gust speakers from many different environmental organisations as well as government and the business community.
