The SERC aim is to provide and ensure you, the student, work throughout the program to achieve the highest standards of work as well as making the whole experience knowledgeable and fun.
How will I be assessed in this subject?
Qualification Value: equivalent to 1 GCSE Course duration: This is a 2 Year Course.
Observation of practical work activities, client consultations, personal portfolios and logbooks, oral and written questioning.
What will I study?
This unit is designed to provide learners with a basic understanding of blow-drying techniques within hairdressing. It will provide learners with an opportunity to learn how to carry out a client consultation, and to provide suitable advice and guidance on hair design.
Learners will develop knowledge and skill in a range of hairstyling techniques on both long and short hair. Learners will acquire experience in the use of a range of styling tools, brushes and styling products, and will create a range of hairstyles. They will also gain an understanding of the importance of health and safety within the industry. Learners will develop an understanding of the range of careers within the hairdressing industry.
This unit is designed to give the learner an understanding of how make-up techniques link to different looks in the beauty industry.
The learner will develop technical understanding and practical skills in the development of make-up. They will learn about individual and teamwork approaches for using make-up skills and selecting clothing to complement the total beauty look.
What career paths are available to me if I study this subject?
Students can take this course in order to progress to NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Hair or Beauty, which is offered within the Hair and Beauty Department at SERC .
