Share Sports and Playground Equipment
Discuss/brainstorm as a class the purpose for sharing sports and playground equipment. Emphasise the importance of safety and including all children who want to take part.
Watch the video as a class and comment on how the characters are or aren't sharing and what they could do instead. Think about...
How they could share
Why they should share
How they will each feel once they are sharing together
Taking turns is really important, especially in the playground. What is especially important is learning that sometimes you will be the one to go last, other times you might be able to go first. It's about sharing and making sure that things are fair for everyone.
Think about a time where you have felt that something might have been unfair.
What made it unfair?
Was it unfair for anyone else or were you taking turns and it was yours last?
What games can you play to practice taking turns?
As the teacher, model to students the incorrect way to use sports/playground equipment. Encourage students to discuss the reasons why this is incorrect and how the teacher can make it safer.
Reiterate the importance of safety with sports equipment and inclusion of others.
If you have time, split the class into small groups and give students 5 minutes to create a short skit demonstrating the correct way to share sports/playground equipment.
Look After Our Environment
Ask students to ‘think, pair, share’ what looking after the school environment means. Feedback to the class. Discuss as a class which different outdoor areas we have that we need to look after (courts, field, garden, playground).
In groups, students pick an area and brainstorm what looking after our environment means:
Picking up rubbish
Pulling out weeds
Putting our own equipment away
Tidying up our belongings, like jumpers or shoes on the field
Picking fruit/vegetables when they are ripe
Share back to the group with what each group came up with.
If you have time, draw a picture/comic/poster showing how you could take care of the school environment.
