Try New Sports or Games
We often play the same games that we're comfortable with and know what to do, but sometimes this can get boring for everyone else, or people want to test out a new game or change the rules. It's all about being flexible and compromising.
Complete a Y chart as a class about what it would look like/sound like/feel like if you were to try a new sport or game in the playground.
If this is simple for your class, you relate it back to He Whare Tapa Wha.
Next, think of a new game that you might not have played before - use the video for inspiration (start from 30 sec)
How do you play them?
Do you need any special equipment to play them?
How many people can play?
What are the rules?
Where can you play?
Research or make up a new game or sport that you could play at break times. Test out some new games together in small groups or as a class.
If you have time, write down the rules or make a how to play guide for other classes to use!
Include Everyone
It is important that we are sensible and kind to include others at break time. We never know who might be our next amazing friend.
When we include others it shows them that we are kind and they feel great, plus so do you!
Watch the Kid President's guide to making a new friend.
If you include someone in your game then you will be making a new friend.
Think of some ways that you might make them feel comfortable and included in your game.
Next chat to a buddy about how someone might feel if you included them in a game, and how they might feel if they were left out. Think about…
Their feelings
What they might think about the others playing
What they might do at break time
Roleplay how you could ask to play in a game with others and chat about how people could respond. Then you could make a storyboard or cartoon strip to help others know what to do!
