Walk Around People and Lunch Boxes
Each day we sit and eat together at school. We have brain food time in the morning, morning tea break and lunchtime eating, so it’s important that we make sure to follow rules and tikanga when we eat.
We know that we shouldn’t sit on tables where we eat but we also shouldn’t step over people or lunch boxes when we are sitting eating. Chat with the class or with a group about how this problem could be solved. Think about…
Where people could sit to eat
How you could move around the room
Where to leave your lunchbox if you need to move away from it
It’s very important that we don’t stand over people and their lunch boxes because it’s tapu, but it’s also a safety issue - if you can trip over it you should be careful of it!
If you have time, research the tikanga around food and make a poster or an infographic about it that you can share on Hero or display in class to remind people of why they should walk around people and lunchboxes.
Try New Foods
There are tons of exciting foods that might be new to us. Imagine if we never branched out and tried something new… We might never have learnt about pizza or fried chicken!
Lots of food has been discovered by accident - who would have thought that peanut butter and jam would have been a good combination. If you never tried anything new, how would you discover your favourite foods?
Think about something that you’ve never tried before but people might like. Would you try…?
Caviar (fish eggs)
Broccoli
Bread
Cake
Snails
Frogs legs
Olives
Potato chips
Watch the video on the right and chat to a buddy - if you tasted something that you didn’t like, what would you do?
If you have time, think up some new food combinations that you might try out either at home or for your lunchbox and design an advert for your new food!
