Hold the Door for Others
Lots of people visit our office area every day, kids, teachers, parents and other visitors to our school. Some people might have hands full or others might be super busy, but it’s always really lovely if we open the door for them.
Watch the videos for your level and talk to a buddy or as a class/group about how people feel when they open the door for someone, and how the door holder is feeling when someone says thank you!
It’s good manners, just like saying please and thank you.
Kindness and good manners builds whanaungatanga, a feeling of belonging to a community.
It also gives others the warm fuzzy feelings that they take through the day
If you have time, make a video of your own about holding open doors. You could show this to another class or share it on seesaw!

Use Your Manners
Everywhere we go we always need to use our manners. When we enter the office area it’s extra important because there’s lots of people around. Chat to a buddy about how we could use our manners in the office. Think about…
Asking people to move or walking around them
Saying hello to people or asking how they are
Asking someone to do something for us and what we can say in return
Talk about whanaungatanga and how kindness and caring build a sense of belonging in our school community. Using please and thank you, holding doors and greeting people are simple ways to make others feel like they matter. They fill people’s buckets each day.
Watch the Bucket Filler video for your year level and come up with some ways that you can use your manners to fill someone’s bucket.
If you have time make a video of you filling someone’s bucket by using your manners, or if you’d like to take it further, check out some of these bucket filler activities.
