Take Care of Equipment and Belongings
We need to take care of/respect the equipment in our school and our own belongings, so that we can continue to enjoy using them.
What are some of the items we need to take care of? List ideas like:
Classroom resources...
PE equipment...
Uniform/School bag…
Which would you rather use?
Look at the pictures below and discuss which one you would rather use and why.
Watch the video and think about how the crayons were feeling. Ask why is it important to look after these things? Brainstorm some ideas for each point above. Eg.
So that we can complete our work neatly...
So that we can play football at lunchtime...
So that our uniform lasts, we can stay warm, to save money…
If you have time, write a story/create a video from the perspective of a misused classroom item, based on the story The Day the Crayons Quit.
You might also like to try to design your ideal classroom, including lots of cool equipment and label it. Or you might like to create a video explaining/showing how to look after our school equipment properly.
Listen to Others
We show respect to people when we listen to what they are saying.
What do we need to do in order to listen effectively?
Watch the video and guess the sound.
Discuss what you had to do in order to listen well and hear the sound.
Eyes on the speaker (or video)
Arms and legs still
Mouths closed
Concentrate on what is being said
Why is it important to listen to the person speaking?
To show respect
To stay safe
To understand instructions
If you have time, practise listening by playing a barrier game (battleship type game, ice block stick shapes, drawing...). Or you could make your own ‘guess the sound’ video and share it on seesaw.

Be Aware of Other's Ideas or Opinions
In life you meet lots of different types of people who have different ideas. We’re all unique and the world would be a pretty boring place if we weren’t all different!
At school, people might have different ideas when you’re working in a small group. Someone might want to play a different game to you at break time or you might have a disagreement with a friend about an instruction from an adult.
It’s really important to value each others’ ideas - it doesn’t mean that they are wrong or you are wrong, it means that you think different things. That’s totally fine and absolutely normal! It’s what happens next that’s the real learning.
Watch the video for your class level and chat as a class about how you can be a good friend to your classmates and value their opinions.
If you have time, make a video showing how two people can have different opinions and still get on! Then you might like to share it on Seesaw with your family.
