- The student will create a dimensional relief sculpture with deconstructed corrugated cardboard.
- The student will look at the large monochromatic work by artist Louise Nevelson as inspiration for their own artwork.
- Beginning with quadrants of smaller sizes, the student will build layers of surfaces and will manipulate the material with peeling, piercing, and detailed cutting.
- The student will work with the design element of "Movement"

Practice utilizing an exacto blade and how to properly use it, ensuring you are using it safely.

(September 23, 1899 – April 17, 1988) was an American sculptor known for her monumental, monochromatic, wooden wall pieces and outdoor sculptures. Nevelson experimented with early conceptual art using found objects, and dabbled in painting and printing before dedicating her lifework to sculpture. Usually created out of wood, her sculptures appear puzzle-like, with multiple intricately cut pieces placed into wall sculptures or independently standing pieces, often 3-D. One unique feature of her work is that her figures are often painted in monochromatic black or white.

You may either create smaller sections separately, and then bring them together later...

Plan out your design and start with the background piece first.
Aim for around 12" by 12" and no more than 24" by 24," but your artwork does not have to be a square, and can have a random shape.

Use cardboard techniques to create interesting shapes and forms

Put them together in a way that leads your viewer's eyes around your artwork

Fill in your negative space with texture that contrast with your other pieces and works with the movement you created in the third step.
