Can we go back in time to the 70's? What fun we had today! I loved all the outfits and meeting new grandparents and seeing those that I met last year, again this year.
A few students said, "Mrs. Deeds, we wouldn't have had Chromebooks back then if we were in 3rd grade, would we?" I think they are very happy to be in 3rd grade now, in 2018!!
WORDS OF THE WEEK: volunteer, accurately, dilemma
Our friends in James and the Giant Peach are out in the middle of the ocean in the peach. They solved the dilemma of having no food and have decided to eat the peach to survive. As we continue to read this week, we will work on describing the interaction between the characters and how they have changed. When we write, we will discuss about words that provide a visual image. Adjectives are important to use and make our writings much more enjoyable for the reader. In math, we will continue with fractions, creating and comparing fractions with like numerators and denominators. In science, students will observe and demonstrate how position and motion can be changed by pushing or pulling. And finally, in social studies, your child will identify and recognize characteristics of a good citizen (very important right now with the Awards Assembly right around the corner)!

1. The character your child chooses to be, your child should know about. Your child should be "an expert of sorts" on that character when questioned.
2. Please be creative and remember that homemade, preowned items, recycled things, etc. make great character outfits and their attire doesn't need to be a "purchased costume". Mine isn't!
3. The character you choose might look like they have a mask, weapon, or blood and guts, however, for your child's day at school, none of those things can be worn or part of their Book Character Dress Up Day.
4. Be mindful that your child will still have recess, brain break, and possibly P.E., so proper shoes need to be worn.
Let's make this day as wonderful as I'm imagining it to be! If you have the book to accompany your child, bring it, or please borrow from me if I have it! Please contact me with any questions.
