Oct. 15 - 19

Your Lego Master Builders were hard workers this week! I've never enjoyed fractions so much! Your child's creativity and ability to make, create, explain, and compare fractions amazed me!

objectives for the week:

WORDS OF THE WEEK: decade, century, climate

Using James and the Giant Peach, we will be talking about cause and effect relationships found in the text. There are so many words out there that need to be capitalized all the time. Why are these words so special? Your child will be able to answer that question! Fractions on a number line is the skill of the week in math. In science, we will continue with force, magnetism and gravity. Why do we pay taxes? That's the "million dollar" question this week in social studies.

News:

  • "Book Character Dress Up Day" is Oct. 31st. I've talked to your child about this great day. There are a few points to please remember:

1. The character your child chooses to be, your child should know about. Your child should be "an expert of sorts" on that character when questioned.

2. Please be creative and remember that homemade, preowned items, recycled things, etc. make great character outfits and their attire doesn't need to be a "purchased costume". Mine isn't!

3. The character you choose might look like they have a mask, weapon, or blood and guts, however, for your child's day at school, none of those things can be worn or part of their Book Character Dress Up Day.

4. Be mindful that your child will still have recess, brain break, and possibly P.E., so proper shoes need to be worn.

  • Third grade will begin our Pilgrims Unit, which is a simulation of the first year at Plymouth Colony, on October 22nd. The finale, so to speak, is the Third Grade Feast which will be on Thursday, November 15th. Students will be able to dress-up as Pilgrims on this day. Much more information will be coming, so stay tuned!
