Map suitability

Once a great map, this is now two good smaller maps due to the works of Bendigo Mining who obliterated a third of the map to create a hole in the ground where gold was not found. Eminently suitable for middle distance courses. The club oral history is that the map was not put forward by the club for the 1985 World Championships because they believed it to be too small. After mapping the area Alex Tarr declared that it should have been mapped for the World Championships carnival.

Access issues:

Assembly sites:

1. Coonooer St (and possibly at end of Gray St). These roads service industrial areas, but are low traffic on weekends.

2. Bendigo Mining parking area off Ham St. Large bitumen area here. Never used, so would require some investigation.

3. Faugh-a-Ballagh Dam. Suitable for a smaller local event. 20 cars.

4. Southern end of Faugh-a-Ballagh road.

Safety Issues:

Deep mine shafts have been known to open up in this area after heavy rain.

Map status:

Mapped by Alex Tarr in 1980s. Remapped by Chris Creely using a lidar base (2014?).
