Overview
You have learned important skills using presentation software, and now it is time to demonstrate your skills by preparing your own presentation for final assessment. Keep in mind that you may use this final project to begin building a professional portfolio of your work to show potential employers or post-secondary institutions.
Refer to the Project Assessment Rubric for the grading criteria for this project. It should take you approximately 7–10 hours to complete your Final Project.
What do I need to do?
1. Select a topic that interests you:
Social Media Platform Analysis
Choose Snapchat, YouTube, Instagram, or Reddit and consider the following questions:
What is it and how does it work?
What is it useful for?
What benefits does it provide?
What drawbacks does it have?
What are some moral or ethical concerns that can arise from using it?
How could it be made better?
Technology in the Workplace Analysis
Think of, or do a bit of research to find, an example of using technology in a specific career field (e.g., computer simulated emergency training, robotics for surgery, smartpigs for pipeline maintenance, etc.). Choose one and consider the following questions:
What is it and how does it work?
What is it useful for?
What benefits does it provide?
What drawbacks does it have?
What are some moral or ethical concerns that can arise from using it?
Are there any related developments or changes to the technology to make it even better?
Internet Censorship & Anonymity
Consider either internet censorship, internet anonymity, or both. Consider the following questions:
To what extent, and where, is the internet censored? How does censorship affect and facilitate online behaviour and communication?
How does anonymity on the internet affect and facilitate online behaviour and communication?
What benefits does it provide?
What drawbacks does it have?
What are some moral or ethical concerns, or social developments, that can arise from censorship and/or anonymity?
If changes were to be made to how we use the internet, what should be done and why? How would this work, practically?
Online Shopping & Economic Technology
Consider the experience of shopping and how technology is being used to govern and shape the economy. Address the following questions:
How do things like online shopping, ecurrency, smartphone wallets, and the like work?
What benefits do online shopping and/or ecurrency provide? What drawbacks do they have?
What are some moral or ethical concerns, or societal changes, that can arise from the use of technology in economic practices?
What trends are occurring, and what might things look like 30 years from now?
E-Sports
Inform us about the current state and future of esports.
Who are key athletes?
Where are esports popular?
What do events involve?
What is the fandom like?
How profitable is esports? For whom?
What kinds of rules, regulations, and leagues are in place?
What are the benefits and drawbacks for competitors?
How does this compare to physical sports?
What developments are currently happening or do you foresee that would change esports, either for the better or for the worse?
2. You will create, manage, deliver, and publish a digital presentation of 10-20 slides that includes the following components:
text (no more than 15 words per slide at minimum size 24)
graphics and background
audio or video media clips that you play in the presentation
a table or chart
animations and transitions
hyperlinks or action buttons that you use in the presentation
any properly cited references (MLA or according to Miss Vanderwal's resources)!
3. Experiment with templates, themes, and master slides as you build your project.
4. Collaborate with a partner for feedback (via the comment feature) as you get to the final stages.
5. When you’ve finalized your presentation, record your presentation as a video. You may use another recording means if that works better for you than Screencastify. You may also ask your teacher about scheduling a live presentation outside of class.
6. When finished, submit the following:
your self-assessed Project Assessment Rubric (make a copy, fill it in based on your assessments, upload to Classroom)
a PDF of 6-slides-per-page handout (on Classroom)
your original Slides presentation (on Classroom)
your recording of your presentation (on Classroom) (unless you've made arrangements for a live presentation)
