Your name was secretly entered into a draw to win $1000. Imagine the surprised look on your face when you are told you've WON! But wait, the surprised look on your face turns serious when you learn there’s a catch. You are informed that the total cost of all the items/services you select must not exceed (go over) $1000.00, GST included. Also, the total cost of all the items (GST included) must fall between $995.00 and $1000.00 or you lose everything. “Not a problem!” you exclaim. “I have a secret weapon called a spreadsheet! I can make it do the math for me, right down to the very last penny! Show me the money!”
/1 Step 1: Use websites to find the items or services you want to purchase for yourself or others (as gifts or donations). Select at least 5. Keep in mind the principle of Matthew 6:12, in which Jesus explains “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” How can you make purchases that will also be an investment in things of eternal value?
Step 2: Open the Most Wanted spreadsheet. Save a copy of the file as Most Wanted - Firstname Lastname in your Final Project folder.
/1 Step 3: Format the text “Most Wanted” as an appropriate title.
/1 Step 4: Format the column widths appropriately so you can see the full heading.
/1 Step 5: Format all cells with dollar amounts to Currency with dollar signs and with 2 decimal places.
/1 Step 6: Underline the column headings.
/1 Step 7: Add a yellow fill colour to the cell representing the money left over.
/4 Step 8: Refer to the comments on the worksheet as hints to create the formulas needed for your calculations for GST, Cost, Grand Total, and Money Left Over. Remember to use absolute and relative cell referencing to ensure that your calculations remain correct even as you add item quantities and prices.
/1 Step 9: Sort your items by price from largest to smallest.
Step 10: Make any other formatting changes you wish to enhance the look of the spreadsheet without undoing the formatting changes specified in previous steps.
/1 Step 11: Delete any extra rows.
Step 12: Continue spending your $1,000.00 on your Most Wanted items/services. Don’t forget that the total cost of all the items (tax included) must fall between $995.00 and $1000.00 or you lose all the money. You can keep your spreadsheet open on the screen and your browser loaded with the websites you are using. This will allow you to work more efficiently if you need to switch back and forth between the two programs to check new prices online or to delete items that cost too much from your spreadsheet.
/1 Step 13: Once your total is between $995.00 and $1000.00, you’re done.
Step 14: Compare your sheet to the exemplar. Does it look close?
