Explanation
A special education evaluation must include an evaluation of secondary transition by age 14 or the end of grade 9 OR sooner. This ensures a transition IEP is in place prior to age 16, per federal requirements. Once transition is addressed in the evaluation, it must be in the IEP. The visual below outlines a flow for transition planning in the IEP process. The pages linked to the buttons above cover the part of the IEP under transition. Additionally, by the end of 9th grade, a student's transition IEP must indicate how they will be graduating (ex: standard diploma, based on IEP, etc). Graduation Timeline
